Further Support For Single Parents

I thought I’d put together some helpful information for single parents, being one myself. As you should know by now you may be entitled to financial aid and help with childcare costs but that isn’t the only support we tend to look for as single parents.

You can find a quick breakdown of some of the assistance available on the NHS website here  but if you’re looking for more in-depth advice and greater support then you’re going to want to take a peek at the website that I stumbled on. Gingerbread is a national charity that offer advice and guidance to single parent families. I’m planning on going to one of their local group meet ups soon so I’ll let you know how I get on..

What they offer:

·       Training courses for parents looking to get back into work (including employment training, financial training, personal skills training and self-employment training)

·       Advice on financial aid that may be available to you (including child maintenance, universal credit, child tax credits and other benefits)

·       Finance and debt advice

·       Information about looking after your mental health and your child’s wellbeing

·       Information on childcare, housing and education (yours and your child’s)

·       Help when seeking holidays and help with costs

·       Legal help and responsibilities

·       Advice about separating, bereavement, moving in with your new partner and for those who don’t live with their children

·       Single parent support groups and a dedicated helpline
