Ladybird live: Rhyme and Rave

Over the weekend we were invited down to ‘Ladybird live: Rhyme and Rave’. This special event from Ladybird and Raver Tots at Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen saw attendees experience a unique combination of afternoon theatrical storytelling from Ladybird’s brand-new range, a rave room hosted by masters of club classics; Wideboys, as well as Ladybird themed face painting, confetti cannons, giant parachutes, colouring, mini play areas and more!

On the day

Having never been to any of the previous Raver Tots events before I really didn’t know what to expect (the result of a quick ASDA trip and some cheap balloons, décor and glowsticks from the party aisle maybe?) but I was pleasantly surprised. When we arrived, we darted straight to the dance floor (as you do!).

The floor quickly filled up with ravers eager to dance the night (well, afternoon) away. Every so often giant confetti canons went off – much to the amusement of the little’uns. They also had massive balloons, bubbles and a hula hooping entertainer to keep them happy – there was even a floss dance off at one point too! Mid-way one of those old school P.E parachutes was brought out and the kids (and ridiculously nostalgic parents, inc me) went crazy for it! It didn’t feel like a tacky kids’ party – rather a Garage Nation style adults rave that our kids just so happened to tag along to.

A range of glow sticks were available to buy at the venue but I was left disappointed after finding out that they didn’t accept card and I didn’t have any cash on me whatsoever

The activity areas impressed me as they were a nice way of cooling off and calming down after a serious raving session. There seemed to be activities catering to all ages – from colouring, face painting, various games including connect four, brick stacking and much more. Staying true to the nature of the event there were books dotted around too and engaging storytelling sessions for the kids. I liked that amongst all of the fun Ladybird were able to inject an educational aspect to the event too – after all, we all know how important it is to get our kids excited about reading! We managed to catch a bit of the ‘Ten Minutes to Bed’ session.

Our Verdict

I’ve always been a bit of a bookworm so this event was right up my alley! Both my son and I found the rave exciting to say the least and the fact that it brought to life how fun reading can be and kept my little one entertained was the icing on the cake. We’ve already decided to add some more of Ladybirds playfully illustrated stories to our collection (you can find their books here , including Peppa Pig, Hey Duggee, Ben and Holly, and the Go Jetters and some great games and activities to keep your kiddos entertained too) and we’ll definitely be attending more of the Raver Tots events in the future (you can find out about their future events here ).
